FARFLUNG: Sci-Fi Role-Play After Dark
Publisher: Sanguine Productions

Farflung is for me, one of the most imaginative science fictions games I've seen in a long while. It allows so many different styles of play while using the same consistant base PbtA core mechanics. It has details (and sometimes rules) to cover so many different thing if you want to use them. I play with a group that likes to try different games and this one turned out to be one of our longest played and for me, most interesting campaigns that I've managed as a GM. The breadth of character options and the depth they're capable of create a lot of different potential ways to play without a need for a lot of sub-systems (although every character has moves that differ somewhat the rules for them are stable.)

I highly recommend this game, and I hope to cycle it back into our play time for a new (or even continued) campaign.

Consent in Gaming

A fantastic and useful tool for gamers old and new. Especially when playing with people you don't know well. As a Gm who respects and cares for the people around my table and that they are having fun without issue, I find this title really hits the nail on the head, with a very good starting point for Session Zero.

It's also useful to help avoid people's personal phobias (which I have personally triggered accidently more than once) not knowing they had them! The chart alone is valuable to let people get a handle on what bothers them, what they want and don't want in context in a game, and even at what level it can be handled.

It's a powerful tool for a player and GM to work together to make gaming better, and more welcoming without hurdles because of real life things that bother people, that one or the other may not be aware of starting off.

Modern Dispatch (#66): Superheroic Adventure Generator

Consisting of only a few tables, and a very basic descriptions this product is lackluster at best. While it is a great start, without a bit more exposition of actually utilizing the tables and handling the superheroic nature of possible events, its really not worth it. Plus for a short product its page numbering is munged: There are two page 9's (one should be page 3), while not a horrible error, its really noticeable.

LIKED: The product is inexpensive, well organized, and simple to use.

DISLIKED: It really is little more than the license, a one page explanation, and charts/tables. Something that should be inside a fuller more robust product (full game, or full superhero GM book)

QUALITY: Disappointing

VALUE: Satisfied
Blue Rose - The Roleplaying Game of Romantic Fantasy (True20)
Publisher: Green Ronin Publishing
by Tim K. [Verified Purchaser]

A solid simplification of the D20 engine--three classes, solid feat based magic system. Unfortunatly lacking in actually providing substance for supporting social role-playing either acadamy type adventures (the early Lackey Heralds series), or similar social venues of play. No solid suggestions for handling pariahdom, and inclusion into society, nor for the classic "love" and complications of that form of romanctic encounters. Over all a GOOD game, just not as solid a product as it could have been if it had been more divorced from D&D's heritage (did we need pictures of weapons? Classic weapons at that? I don't think I need another "Longsword" or "Crossbow" picture in a game book for the rest of my life.)

LIKED: The cover art was nice, the system greatly simplified. Good for play, and well done.

DISLIKED: Most of the art isn't up to the cover's quality and fairs around classic game-book art level. The fantastic races are yet again "elf" and "orc" without more than a very unsubtle veiling and not a well honed one at that with the elf race being those with "fey" ness about them and the orc race having been servants of evil. As if we haven't seen these things before. Not enough solid support for a game loosely inspired by the novels it lists. It manages the combat, some of the "magic" but none of the feel because of the lacking for teaching gamer's more about using social elements in game play.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
More wargame based than role-playing the engine focuses on the combat system and hand-waves the non-combat sides of gaming especially with regards to powers. It needs serious editing, and some clean up of terminology to be more concise and clear.

Sadly, just not enough game here. 20 odd pages doesn't cover the ideas well.
