Kineticist Codex

So I was excited to get this product. I love the OA classes and the psychic stuff. So to dive into this was a joy. Unfortunately several things came to my attentions immediately:

1) it uses rule/races/feats that aren't standard. While i can understand that , especially when trying to advance thier own products, it makes it hard to transfer to a different campaign without executive descesions and educated guesswork. 2) uses rules from Ultimate Psionics 3) the stat blocks do not include all the possibilities for a given character. For example, a character that has kinetic blast doesn't have that ability in its stat block 4) the characters aren't very different from one another. For example, almost every single character have Weapon Focus (kinectic blast) 5) the color/info text doesn't match the stat block at times (electric instead of force) 6) each character has nearly the same feat/skill selection (see #4) 7) some characters have feats they do not qualify for 8) and some character have missing feats (ie. they should have x feats but only have x-1 feats in their stat block)

Now I do like the product. I love reading backstory and imaging what i can do with a given character. But i think this Kineticist Codex could have used a better editor and some more creative writer.

#1 With a Bullet Point: 7 Cure Light Wounds Feats

A very nice product, small, concise, precise, and useful. The last is the most important. The feats are neat and I can't imagine a cleric (or any sort of healer) not wanting to take a feat that would allow the extra hit points healed as temporary hit points. That's the good.

The bad is that the product really needed to be proof read by someone who had no idea what the author was trying to say. Example: how long do temporary hit points gained via one of these feats last? And can someone, anyone, explain the text of Lingering Cure? I read it once, went cool Read it again to make sure i understood it, got more confused and then on the third reading gave up.

All that being said I have room for these feats in my campaign. the only concern I have about including them is that they break some of the barriers between the classes. These feats allow cleric to do some things that other classes can do (e.g. the cleric cast CLW on himself as a move like a paladin laying on hands.

And now i that i think of it, it might be worthwhile to explore the possibilities of these feats as metamagic healing feats. That would allow the use of them at higher level and better fit the concept of a metamagic feat.

Iconic Characters (Free Version)

Nice product. Very simple though. Basically characters with no background or explanation. I did not go through the stat blocks to determine if they were valid, but they seemed valid. I noticed that one character has a cold iron dagger, not the usual starting equipment.

There is no history or motivations associated with the characters. I think that would have made this impressive and useful. Now its just 'ehn,' because what they did here is no different that creating off the cuff a 1st level level character.

Toys for the Sandbox 05: Secret Library

Much more sketchy than i expected. Additionally the "map" was a sketch with no scale and the prose only roughly described the library. The main NPCs were also only described in broad strokes: no names, just appearance and their specialties. The hooks were nice though and the only thing i could use for my purposes in my campaign.

So if a broad sketch is what you are after, this is a great product. But for most games, when th party has to interact and deal with the library, i would not recommend this pdf.

Advanced Character Guide: Arcane Archer

Not what I expected. As I have a character in Living Greyhawk campaign moving towards the core AA, i wanted to see suggestions on feat selecting, class selection, and other things that i could review and perhaps improve my character with.

Instead I got a new 20-level class, a buunch of NPCs (of varying levels), a few new spells, some new magic, and a handful of archer feats and styles.

LIKED: Lots of interestuing crunchy stuff. Enjoyable to read, interesting to think about. The author(s) do take the time to comment of their design descesions which is nice.

DISLIKED: Wasn't what I expected, but other than that I like it.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
