Mothership: A Pound of Flesh
Publisher: Tuesday Knight Games
by Devin P. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/21/2020 20:56:11

A Pound of Flesh is, in my opinion, the gold standard of RPG supplement design. The graphic design of this book is stunning and innovative. The designer(s) did some amazing work utilizing only white, black, and pink. There is a lot of information packed into its layout! the tone is encouraging and the writing stimulates your creativity while you're running the adventure. There isn't any filler here; this is packed full of useful information.

As for content, the setting is appropriately dark and dystopian. In addition to the thoroughly-detailed space station Prospero's Dream, there are also random tables that will aid you in creating your own space stations. This is a book you will get a lot of use out of for your Mothership campaign.

The only thing I would have liked to see would have been a content warning at the beginning. There is some deeply disturbing stuff in here - as you would expect from a sci-fi horror game - but it would be helpful for GMs, at least, to know what they're going to be in for, and gauge whether their players are going to be okay with that content.

This should be up for awards.

Dragon Age Faces of Thedas: Varric
Publisher: Green Ronin Publishing
by Devin P. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/11/2013 00:27:12

If you're buying the Dragon Age RPG stats for Varric, you expect to get details on both the character and maybe some suggestions on how to use him in your Dragon Age game. Faces of Thedas: Varric delivers on both.

Even if you've played through Dragon Age II (as I have), you may still find some of the extra information given in this supplement useful as well as entertaining. Mary Kirby's interview gives some solid advice on how to capture Varric's personality and goals while portraying him in-game. The suggestions on how to include Varric in your own games are helpful; it's true that I could probably have come to some of the same conclusions myself after some brainstorming and research on the Dragon Age wiki, but the whole point of buying a product like this is so that I don't have to.

The details on using Contacts, signature items for characters (like Bianca), and applying Set 2's masterwork rules to locations (such as the Hanged Man) are icing on the cake; simple but useful rules that I think will improve my own games.

Chances are, if you're considering purchasing this supplement, you're doing it for the same reasons I am (to see how Varric and Bianca look in the AGE system, likely with an eye toward having him show up in your game). You'll get that (two versions of Varric, in fact, at level 1 and level 5) as well as a few other goodies. If your players have been wanting their characters to swagger around in stylish leather dusters, here's your chance to hand them out.

This is one of the more useful packages I've ever bought here. This is a collection of forms used to organize the GM's thoughts in creating and running a fantasy setting, and it does the job very well. In fact, apart from one or two spots, the forms work extremely well for any game system.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: The inclusion of straight-forward forms to print out as well as PDF forms that you can fill in on the computer.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Nothing comes to mind. I very much appreciate these.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

Tournaments, Fairs, and Taverns: D&D 3.5
Publisher: EN Publishing

Very, very useful! If you're a Dungeon Master and you ever plan to have an adventure or scene that involves a tournament, a fair, or even just bar-room gaming (dice, cards, etc.), this is an excellent resource. Rules are given (both in-game and out-of-game) for running non-lethal tournament combat, games of chance, carnival-style games, and so on. Not only does it include the classics, but it suggests a few examples of games that might exist in a fantasy world marked by non-human races and magic. A very nice graphic presentation, as well.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: It delivered on what the description promised.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Nothing really comes to mind at the moment. A solid product.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

Everyone Else: A Book of Innkeepers, Farmers & More

An invaluable resource for any Dungeon Master. I consider this one of the cornerstones of my D&D collection, essential for those times when a Player Character decides to mix it up with an NPC, be it in a contest of skill or an all-out brawl. There are generic NPCs of all different professions listed, each one with stats for varying levels of experience.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Aside from its considerable usefulness, I liked its ease of navigation, its multiple-level listings of NPCs, and its simple yet attractive graphic layout. <br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Nothing that I can think of. This has been a very useful product to me.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

Star Drive Campaign Setting
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
by Devin P. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/30/2004 00:00:00

StarDrive has become my favorite non-property-based science fiction setting for space opera games in the vein of "Babylon 5", Traveller, and the like. Some focus is given to the frontier region of Human-explored space, called the Verge, which is an interesting melting pot of cultures that have been seperated from the rest of settled space for a long period of time, making for an intriguing campaign setting. However, a great portion of the book is devoted to describing the various stellar states which compose the settled part of the galaxy. What draws me to this setting is how interesting and diverse these stellar nations are, with a detailed future history and cultures with distinct characteristics which really stick out in my mind. Similarly, the alien races provided are intriguing and tend to avoid the more annoying sci-fi cliches (well, the ones I* find annoying, at any rate). Even if you don't play Alternity, this book is still worth buying for the setting detail. This isn't a stat-heavy book at all.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: The distinct and diverse stellar nations, the great range of possibilities for adventures of all types, and the lovely color plates illustrating citizens of the various states.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Unfortunately, this is a scan of the rulebook and not a file created specifically for PDF format. It's fairly color-heavy, and thus it'll eat up your ink cartridges if you try to print it out on an inkjet. Having said these things, it's a fair scan of the book.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>
