Fuzzy Knights: The RPG

This Review is for the whole Fuzzy Universe : Heroes 2nd Ed.,Fuzzy Knights , Plastic Ships and Fuzzy Men. The Setting and Story are excellent and funny.(if you like toys) The rules are quite simple and allow for a lot of customization and scratch building. As a whole it is fantastic to read, but i doubt someone will seriously enjoy more game sessions than the ones you play to get full understanding of the game system.

When I saw this come across the site, I blinked at it. "Did someone actually write the fictional RPG that B.A. Felton did in Knights of the Dinner Table?" I asked. The answer is yes, yes they did. And, perhaps surprisingly, it's quite good! First, let's get something out of the way: this is absolutely, positively NOT a parody game. It's humorous, with all sorts of dog- and pet-related humor, but the humor isn't parodying roleplaying games at all. This is a real game. It is really meant to be played, for real, no takesy-backsies. In this game, as you can see from the description, the players take on the roles of dogs. Each dog has several statistics describing their strength, fighting ability and ability to influence humans and other animals. The system is a simple roll-over percentile system for most tests. You also have "Tricks", special doglike activities that give you particular abilities (such as shaking a smaller opponent like a ragdoll in your jaws). Combat also follows th ... I would think that a major game company like Kenzer could at afford someone to spend 20 minutes correcting obvious typos and bad sentences. I found it hard to get through as I was constantly stumbling over these literary speed bumps. When your words are your livelihood, you might want to put just a little effort into polishing them.

Zoa: Citadel of the Bay

This work jumps straight in, with Chapter 1: The History of Zoa explaining how the city developed from a gnome township... and how its history is intertwined with that of Werlen, an elf. Werlen spotted the area's potential early, as the gnome fishing and farming village was situated on a natural harbour, and set up a trading business, and so it developed to become a centre of commerce and trade, home to a range of arts and a focal point for religion: plenty of reasons to visit. A detailed account of the various groups who have arrived in Zoa over the years, whether orcs raiding or halflings trading, exotic elves visiting and so on, show how the city has grown to the state in which it is today. It's a fascinating sweep of events, marred only by some sloppy proof-reading. Next, Chapter 2: The City of Zoa describes the city as it exists in the present day, beginning with its geography. There's a brief outline of the current racial distribution of the population leading into a detail de ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

Goods and Gear: The Ultimate Adventurer's Guide

This book is great. It is one of the most detaield and comprehensive equipment books I've ever seen. It's useabel with D20 and Hackmaster games (and as such any oldschoolRPGs as well). I'll mention just a few bits about this comprehensive book. The discussion of the marketplace and the buying and seeling of goods, taxation, coinage and more is solid. There are a lot of weapons with identical or virtually identical stats but they have decent write-ups that add some flavor to the game. The clothing section is great and almost worththe price of purchase alone. There are rtuels about style if yuo want to bother but even better is the simpel fact that clothing pieces are described ..i didn't know what a braies or fillet was before I got this book. there is a lot of crunch here, fillign lots of spots in many a campaign equipment list but also a lot of detail to help describe the world to the players in the manner of what various goods and gear look like. ... Fairy Meat Core Rules
von Ryan Whiteley [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 05/17/2008 03:07:27
[TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
Fairy meat is a fairly simple miniatures game. It's designed to use paper or real miniatures, and battles take place anywere theres space. Paper miniatures are included, as well as fairy wings you can put on anything. It's a simple system and has a fun background (The fairies are killing eachother for food) It's an inexpensive book, and uses a deck of cards in place of dice, so really you should only be paying for the rulebook and some printer paper if you want cheap. The game itself is pretty fun, and easy to learn for all your friends afraid of wargamming. ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

Dijishy: The City of History

An RPG Resource Review: Even the Introduction sucks you in, with an overview of an hospitable city in the midst of inhospitable mountains and deserts. Here customs and traditions are unique, yet the inhabitats are open and sharing and always ready to sit, take tea with you and chat. Chapter 1: The Western Elos Desert, however, describes not the city but the desert across which you have likely travelled to get there. Its history tells of barely-remembered ancient civilisations, whose descendents live as nomads or, still retaining their tribal traditions, in Dijishy itself. There are several distinct tribes with their own customs. The desert itself is typical of such areas, with a lot more life than you'd suspect unless you are familiar with desert biology. There are many dangers as well as territorial wildlife, from heat exhaustion and burned feet to flash floods. It's just as well that nomad guides know the caravan routes, as it is easy to stray into dangerous areas in what, to t ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

Greed and Glory

[TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
An RPG Resource Review: You might think these two an odd mix at first glance, but both seek riches and fame (or notoriety) by their skills in combat and tactics. You might also think that although interesting to encounter, they might be a bit too specialised to make good adventurer player-characters. Perhaps not... I shall read on and find out! Chapter 1: Greed and Glory sets out to answer my point about the practicalities of playing either class, with a detailed analysis of their skills, potentials and the way they fit into the Kingdoms of Kalamar campaign setting (although of course the majority of the material can be used wherever your game is set). First up, the Brigand. Basically a thief, traditionally robbing travellers, their main motivation is often not so much the money as what they want to do with it - such as gain enough to move out of an area where there's a price on their head and set themselves up for a more legitimate occupation. Others may like the relaxed lifesty ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

Divine Masters: The Faiths and Followers of Tellene
von Megan Robertson [TEXT_REVIEW_STAFF] Hinzugefügt am: 02/19/2008 11:41:25
[TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
An RPG Resource Review: This is a massive and detailed exploration of matters religious within this campaign seting. It starts with the truth: that a Creator made both the world and a raft of 'gods' to inhabit it, each deity being the embodiment of a given characteristic of the Creator. These gods plotted and schemed and bickered amongst themselves, and then discovered that their strength was in direct relationship to the numbers of worshippers that they could attract! Their bickering changed, rather than endanger themselves they now use their worshippers as pawns in their squabbles, while the Creator sits back and watches the story unfold. The first chapter goes on to explain that while this is both what actually has taken place and the orthodox view, each race has its own set of creation myths and understanding of the place of gods and mortals within the world. As with real world religions, there are numerous myths and legends all aiming to fill that need of all sentient beings ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

Aces & Eights: Showdown
von Megan Robertson [TEXT_REVIEW_STAFF] Hinzugefügt am: 09/08/2007 08:11:34
[TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
An RPG Resource Review: This is really a gunfight skirmish system rather than a role-playing game proper, but it is jam-packed full of good ideas to make a shoot-out exciting. Many of these ideas could be translated into any other game in which gun combat features, and there are rudimentary notes to create combat-centric Old West adventures around the skirmish system if you prefer. It starts off by explaining how to create basic characters who, like any gunfighter, are defined by their speed and their accuracy, both rolled on a table using 2d6. Hit points are determined as 20 + 1d4. And that's all you need, although there are additional tables for names, professions and the like if you want him or her to be a little more than a shooting machine. And then on to the essentials of a gunfight. What people can do is based on their Speed, with a random factor from a 1d10 roll - advanced rules allow for other factors such as fame and experience as well. That lets you know when you wi ... This is a great alternate adventure to start out your players in. It is a great way to introduce a city, it's workings, and some interesting places. All done as an investigation and can be completed without actually having to draw a weapon. This is a great role playing adventure. I can't wait to run my player's through this.

LIKED: A great alternative to the traditional adventure. The player handouts were great too.

DISLIKED: Nothing.

Raid on Bokagna
von Megan Robertson [TEXT_REVIEW_STAFF] Hinzugefügt am: 05/19/2007 07:35:24
[TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
An RPG Resource Review: You don't have to be an orc to play this, but being evil helps... In this adventure, a tribe of orcs planning on annexing an area of the hills above the Khydoban Desert sends a raiding party - the characters - to investigate an outpost set up by the resident gnomes who are concerned about the marauding orcs. The gnome outpost is well-detailed in a manner conductive to easy running of the adventure - room descriptions, contents, apposite rules and even the likely responses of the occupants to tresspassing orcs are all there where you'll need them. In the unlikely event that a visiting orc character wants to talk rather than fight, the DM will have to decide on the reactions for himself - the scenario is intended as a 'here is a location through which you can rampage' adventure, non-fighters will not have much to do. As a one-off, or part of a campaign based around a group of orcs, this will make for a splendid evening's entertainment for a bunch of low-l ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

The Emerald Curse
von Megan Robertson [TEXT_REVIEW_STAFF] Hinzugefügt am: 05/12/2007 08:44:36
[TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
An RPG Resource Review: Deep in the primeval forests, the gnolls are getting uppity and mounting raids far and wide. Run as written, this adventure places the characters as leading members of an orc tribe who have had enough and want to deal with the problem with the usual tact and diplomacy shown by your average orc... with an attack on the gnolls and whoever or whatever is leading them. The adventure is presented in a clear and straightforward manner, which should prove easy for even an inexperienced GM to run, while there is scope for more practised groups to bring greater depth to the proceedings. Each location is well described, including the likely reactions of anyone there to the intrusion of a bunch of heavily-armed orcs. NPC/monster stats are summarised so that you don't need to go and find them in an appendix or in your Monster Manual mid-encounter, although naturally if you are unfamiliar with any particular creature it is wise to read up on them beforehand! As the ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

Making a Name It is rare to find an adventure that is not a dungeon crawl. Even ones that start out as an investigation usually have a dungeon crawl, even a small one, in them for the PCs to explore. But with many really good city books and city based campaigns there is a need for a purely city based adventure. Making a Name is such an adventure that takes place entirely within one city and has no dungeon crawl associated with it. Making a Name is a PDF by Kenzer and Company. The module is written for Daniel S Donnelly. It is not a book marked PDF but it does have art and a good layout. It is designed to look like printed modules Kenzer has produced. The module is not long only being twenty three pages. It is well written and easy to read and follow. There are two player handouts that one will want to print out for the players to make use of. Spoilers for the module will follow so please only read if you are planning on running the modules and not playing through it. The ad ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]

Kingdoms of Kalamar: Player's Guide to the Sovereign Lands
von Megan Robertson [TEXT_REVIEW_STAFF] Hinzugefügt am: 01/07/2007 13:50:00
[TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
An RPG Resource Review: Aimed at anyone particpating in a campaign in the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting, this work sets out to provide a wealth of new options - races, classes, skills, feats and so on - designed to enhance your character and integrate him more fully into this specific setting. The Introduction explains, primarily for those new to the setting, a little about the background and history of the setting, and explains how the depth and 'realism' contributes to making it somewhere a bit more than just a backdrop to adventure, more of a living 'alternate reality' that your characters can inhabit and participate in rather than merely visit. Chapter 1 looks at Races. Here it explains that, while a standard character generated using the Player's Handbook is quite sufficient for play in the Kingdoms of Kalamar, using the contents of this book will aid you to create a true native of whichever part of the world you select as your home. Each of the standard races (including hu ... [TEXT_READ_FULL_REVIEW]
