Buck-A-Batch: Magic Armor I

Outfit your characters with armor that does more than just add points to their armor class. Here are just a few of the items we pulled out of our magic armory: Missileguard Shield, Prismatic Armor, Shield of the Labyrinth, and Dire Bear Hide.

The Buck-A-Batch line is part of System 20, a design your own supplement system created by Creation's Edge Games.

Sample:

Chain-burst Armor

In addition to the protective bonus it grants, this +1 suit of chain mail has a one-use function. The wearer can cause it to explode outward, its individual chain links shooting out like hundreds of sling shot bullets. All creatures within a 20-foot radius of the wearer, friends and enemies alike, must make a successful Reflex save (DC20) or else take 4d6 points of damage from the barrage of chain links.

Caster level: 10th / Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, wish / Market Value: 4,300gp / Cost to Create: 2,150gp + 172xp

This PDF has some of the same products as the other Buck-a-Batch product I reviewed. The writer keeps added the phrase ?as described in the Dungeons & Dragons Player?s Handbook, 3rd edition? to everything. Its sort of annoying after a while, part [...]

Good product, considering the price. I enjoyed seeing the items that were included, but I would have liked to have seen more unique items, rather than a collection of similar and repetetive items.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: [...]

Not as many duplicate effects as with the other sets, but still lacking the imagination and inspiration I'd like to see in a product of this nature. Carries the feel of something simply slapped on paper.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Alo [...]

I bought a bunch of these (most if not all) and like them quite a bit. I'm always on the lookout for interesting magic items that are well made. These fit the bill well. Very reasonably priced as well. <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: [...]

As with the other Buck-a-Batch files I've purchased, the quality of ideas runs the gamut from boring to original and interesting. Cons: Lousy game mechanics. Too often there are no DC's given for an item's ability. Most items do not [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
